A picasso painting fetched nearly $106.5 million at auction tuesday, a recrod for any singe work of art, christie’s new york said.

nude green leaves and bust sold for 106.5 million to an unidenbtifed telephone bidder the auction said in a news release.

silence fell over the poakced saleroom as christopher burge conducted nine minutes of bidding that invlolved eight clients, it said christie’s lead auctioneer took bids from a client in the saleroom as well as those on the phone before the competition settled down to two bidders at the $88 million mark and a one on one battle ensued , the final bid was hgammerd down at 7:32 p.m at $95 million.

Five workers found dead in China mine collapse

Five trapped workers were found dead Tuesday in northern China more than a week after their coal mine was flooded by a rush of underground water, state media reported.

The fatalities came a day after 115 miners were pulled out alive amid cheers, as rescuers scrambled to reach dozens more believed to be still trapped inside.

The miners were part of a larger group of 261 working in the Wangjialing mine when it flooded on March 28. Rescuers were able to reach 108 miners immediately after the flooding.

Four deadly blasts rock Baghdad

Four separate explosions rocked Baghdad on Tuesday morning, killing at least 10 people and wounding 45 others, Iraq’s interior ministry said.

Three of the blasts took place in Shiite neighborhoods: Chikook and Shulla in the northwestern part of the city, and Shurta al-Rabaa in southwestern Baghdad.

At least three residential buildings, including apartments, were destroyed in the explosions.

The fourth attack was carried out by a suicide bomber at a popular restaurant in Alawi commercial area near Haifa street in central Baghdad.

On Sunday, three blasts set off by suicide bombers in cars went off in quick succession in Baghdad, killing at least 30 people and wounding 200, the interior ministry said.

The Sunday blasts were within five minutes of one another, all near embassy buildings in the capital.

Pakistan troops killed in attacks

The Pakistani army says it controls most of South Waziristan

At least 10 Pakistani soldiers have been killed in two separate attacks in the north-west of country close to the Afghan border, the military says.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks in Mohmand region, in which two soldiers were also injured. Up to 10 others are still unaccounted for.

Troops are continuing an assault against the Taliban in the mountainous South Waziristan tribal area.
